July 13th, 2009 -- Posted in Special Theme Parks, Top Parks | Comments

Theme parks started with fairs and meets that used to be held periodically to hold exhibitions, to play games providing general entertainment to the local people. The fairs catered to the entertainment requirements of the people in the form of creative activities, new games, serving delicacies et al. The parks we see today have evolved gradually from the fairs that were a part of the traditional culture. Theme parks are now highly modern with technologically supported rides and other gaming gadgets. Theme parks are now a rage in US with families spending ample time especially vacation time in these parks.

What is a theme park?

Theme parks are places that provide entertainment on a larger scale than their simple city counterparts as they offer a wide range or collection of rides and other attractions for various age groups and not just children. It is also called an amusement park as it offers varied entertainment pursuits.

Some amazing theme parks in US

· Cedar Point, Ohio, United States

This park offers great rides, it has the largest set of roller-coasters and the variety never ceases to amaze and entertain. Thus it is a famous destination for people looking out for enjoyment and some exciting enjoyment at that!

· Islands of Adventure, Florida, United States

This is a different kind of a theme park and stands out because the park literally follows a theme. Everything looks in theme, nothing out of place. There is a shopping area, a space for your favourite cartoon characters, a space devoted to comic characters along with other themes for children’s’ rides. They have fewer rides but the place is beautifully kept with innovative designing and great landscaping.

· Holiday World, Indiana, United States

This is the nation’s first theme park and now has a wide range of rides and toys to offer. It has three holiday themes, Christmas, Halloween and Independence Day. It is also popular for the delicious food that it offers. But the greatest advantage is that this place is reasonably priced in all aspects.

· Knoebels, Pennsylvania, United States

The best part of this park is that the admission is free and one only needs to buy the tickets for the rides desired. There are several water rides along with the usual roller coasters. It is surrounded by trees and thus is closer to nature than most of its other famous counterparts.

What can you gorge on in a theme park?

Food is available in abundance in these theme parks. They are sold on trolleys, carts and booths. The food items offered are varied and delectable to the last bite! You can get anything from street food like burgers, hot dogs to full-fledged connoisseur foods. You can choose from foods like French fries, cheese filled rolls etc. The sweets range from cotton candy to chocolates, ice creams, cakes, fudge desserts and many more mouth-watering items. The parks also offer special food in case the theme is something different and not the usual, local variety. They run their own food courts along with local and national food houses pitching in with their delicacies.
