On August 25, 2008, the Washington State Department of Health will hold a final hearing on new rules intended to help clarify our state's medical marijuana law. Unfortunately, key elements of their proposed rules contradict basic horticultural science, and the rules as proposed threaten to considerably undermine our medical marijuana law.
It is imperative that all concerned citizens throughout the state of Washington attend this rally and public hearing. The hearing will be held at the Department of Health offices in Tumwater, at 310 Israel Road SE. at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 25, 2008. The rally starts at 10 a.m., so show up early with coffee and a smile. More information is available at www.doh.wa.gov or on our web site, cdc.coop.
The CDC has a few serious concerns about the new rules:
Nonprofit will assist medical-marijuana patients wrongly charged with drug offenses
SEATTLE, AUGUST 7, 2008 -- An activist group announced a toll-free hotline today for citizens to report medical-marijuana arrests and prosecutions in Washington State. Called the "Washington State Potline," the program seeks to collect data on law-enforcement compliance with the state's medical marijuana law and hold accountable agencies that violate the spirit of the state's medical use of marijuana act.
The Seattle-based Cannabis Defense Coalition set up the hotline in response to what members say is increased hostility towards medical-marijuana patients in Washington State. "In some counties, police tell patients our medical marijuana law does not even exist," said Ric Smith, a spokesperson for the group and authorized patient. Smith is a cancer survivor and AIDS patient who uses marijuana, as authorized by state law, to relieve his suffering. "Police and prosecutors must be educated about our medical marijuana law, and be held to it," he says.
Cannabis Defense Coalition believes our mission is best served by sharing freely as much of our work as possible. On this page one may download activist artwork, and find tips on the hows and wheres of printing, screening, stenciling, etc.
The main image we promote is shown on the right. It's a bright red stop sign with "Stop Arresting Medical Marijuana Patients" in Arial Black, all caps. We're not certain who first created this image, and several versions exist. Americans for Safe Access uses this image with a fair amount of success, and we think it's both simple and powerful. We couldn't find a high-quality version on the web, so created our own. None of these have our branding -- name or web site. Feel free to add your own branding to your prints.
